Mooring Buoys

Mooring buoys are designed to keep one end of a mooring chain or cable on the surface of the water. This way boats can tie on to it with ease. At Jack Watson Sports we carry the Taylor Made line of Sur-Moore Buoys which are built to withstand the punishing demands of mooring environments. The hard-skin polyethylene shell is UV protected to resist the effects of sunlight and is foam filled to ensure that water is displaced. Remember that the sole purpose of the mooring buoy is to support the mooring chain. The two preferred designs for mooring buoys are a traditional with hardware or a buoy with a tube through the centre. Both offer reliable flotation and will last for several seasons, depending upon the salinity of the water. Keep in mind that, freshwater applications will extend the useful life of any mooring system over salt water. A permanent mooring system, when properly designed, should securely position a boat so that it can be left unattended, with little attention, for long periods of time. Each system usually consists of a mooring buoy (to float the chain), a mooring anchor and a length of chain (running between the anchor and the mooring buoy). Also the proper ground tackle includes correct sized galvanized shackles and swivels. Always keep in mind, that the mooring system is only as reliable as the current conditions of the environment. All Taylor Made Sur-Moor Buoys are built to withstand the constant abuse of most mooring environments.

Sur-Moor Shackle Buoy Sur-Moor Taper Tube - 70lbs buoyancy
The rope nest design has a built in cup shape at the top of the buoy that allows the anchor shackle to nest below the buoy surface. This recessed area helps shield the shackle from contacting the boat hull while making a convenient resting place for the pennant line when the boat departs from the mooring. With more floatation area at the waterline creating the Sur-Moor taper shape design allows for a higher visibility mooring. The hard-skin shell is made of polyethylene and is UV protected to resist the weathering effects of sunlight.
Taper Mooring Buoys Large Mooring Buoy - 410 lbs buoyancy (30 inch diameter)
Our Price: $351.50
Our Price: $574.50
Sur-Moor Taper Buoy - 65 lbs buoyancy Large Mooring Buoy
The Sur-Moor taper shape design places more floatation area at the waterline creating a higher visibility mooring. The hard-skin polyethylene shell is UV protected to resist the weathering effects of sunlight and is foam filled to positively displace water. The big 30 inch Sur-Moor taper shape design places more floatation area at the waterline creating a higher visibility mooring. The hard-skin polyethylene shell is UV protected to resist the effects of sunlight and is foam filled to positively displace water. The shell has a sandblasted finish which allows the buoy to be easily painted for identifying.
